A mineral is a inorganic solid, it is naturally formed, and it has a crystalline structure. Elements are they are substances that are pure and cannot be broken down into simpler substances with ordinary chemical means. Minerals are mostly made of compounds that are made of several different elements. A compound that is made of two or more elements and they have been chemically joined. A native element is when a mineral is composed of only one element. Crystals are made by a repeating pattern of atoms or molecules, they are solid and geometric. Silicate minerals is a combination of oxygen and silicon, and there are three types of silicate minerals and they are quartz, feldspar, and mica. Nonsilicate is when the combination of oxygen and silicon do not combine, and the six types of minerals are native elements, carbonates, halides, oxides, sulfates, and sulfides. Luster is the way surface reflects light. Also any natural material that is used by humans is called a natural resource. Rocks and mineral are very important to the planet.
